A Letter from Mecca

It took me a few hours in Mecca to realise something.

In a beautiful sea of organised chaos, it became so painfully obvious.

This is what we're being distracted from.

Mecca is the archetype of human potential.

Shrouded in a meditative energy so peaceful that the heart could finally breathe.

Millions of people from every corner of the planet united in one thing, worshipping their Creator.

Where the meaning of life is collectively answered five times per day.

Anywhere else, the idea of millions of people from every country on earth packed into a space one-tenth the size of Central Park would send most people running in the opposite direction.

It sounds impossible — but not here.

How?

Because in Mecca, the distractions of this worldly life are left behind and replaced with a deep sense of peace, purpose, and connection to the Divine.

Mecca is everything the modern world is not.

No race, no politics, no status, no fame, no division.

Just unity.

The billionaire and beggar standing shoulder to shoulder.

The black and the white embracing each other with greetings of peace.

The ruler and the refugee prostrating before their Lord side by side.

If the world knew this truth then there could only be peace.

Yet, despite this truth being so clear, the forces of distraction and corruption are relentless.

That's why they've built a world where degeneracy is rewarded with riches and fame.

Where hedonism is applauded and self-discipline ridiculed as toxic.

Where promiscuity is celebrated and modesty shamed.

Where diseases of the heart are numbed with ritualistic drinking, gambling, and drugs.

Where our life's purpose has been replaced by the worship of idols — sports teams, celebrities, and careers.

Where self-worth is measured in physical possessions.

Where health, education, and care are just another means for profit.

Where joy has been substituted with an unending algorithm of outrage and division.

Where even the food is being pumped full of poison.

The result?

An unsurprising epidemic of mental illness diagnoses.

But at least they'll give you a cocktail of chemicals so you can finally feel nothing.

It's all a lie.

It's all by design.

And it's all to keep you away from the truth Mecca — and Islam — offers.

Losers indeed are those who deny the meeting with Allah until the Hour takes them by surprise, then they will cry, “Woe to us for having ignored this!” They will bear ˹the burden of˺ their sins on their backs. Evil indeed is their burden!
This worldly life is no more than play and amusement, but far better is the ˹eternal˺ Home of the Hereafter for those mindful ˹of Allah˺. Will you not then understand? Quran 6:31-32
